What Should Have Been

Before we were even engaged, Raad contacted my big brother and asked for his blessing. Cy had "the talk" with Raad but readily gave his full blessing for him to ask me. After the proposal on July 25, I was already making plans for our wedding. One of my first calls was to my brother and my question was ... Will you walk me down the aisle? That not only made him proud, but gave him something to plan for and look forward to. You see, he had been battling prostrate cancer since 2023, but things seemed to be looking up and his doctor seemed to think he was heading into remission. He seemed to be doing so well and plans for the wedding started to progress. In late 2025, we got the news that the cancer had metastasized and he was now battling small cell carcinoma, which is a very aggressive cancer. Even with that news, he went out and bought things that he would be wearing to the wedding and plans were still being made for him to attend. His biggest fear was having to use a walker to get down the aisle, but he was bound and determined to make it all become a reality.

I got the call early in Feb that he fell and broke his femur, at that time, the drs found that the cancer had invaded the bones and there was nothing more they could do. He was sent home on hospice after an extensive surgery to have a rod placed from his hip to his knee Raad andI scheduled time off work and made the trip to texas. Our first day there was feb 11 and Cy talked to us about having a live video feed at the wedding so he could see it as it happened. There wasn't even a question, we were going to make it happen. On Feb 12, he slept most of the day and only woke up once. On Feb 13, he slept all day again and wasn't awake at all when we were at his home. On Feb 14, at 5:23 PM, my big brother took his last breath as his wife andI held his hand.

Please take a moment to listen to the song thatI picked for my brother andI to dance to at the wedding. It describes who he was  and how hard he fought.

My brother, my protector and my first best friend, as sad asI will be not to have you at our wedding,I hope thatI make you proud.I also hope that some how, some way, that you and Mom get to watch as Raad andI make this commitment.

You both will have the best seat in the house!
